
Overview
The official ground breaking ceremony included dignitaries such as Mayor
Martin Chavez, Representative Steve Schiff, Senators Jeff Bingaman
and Pete Dominici, and many of the U.S. judges that are to occupy
the facility.
The courthouse was built on the 4.5 acre site of
the old McClellan Park near downtown and houses 10 district and
magistrate courtrooms, 15 judge’s chambers, U.S. Marshal
Service, and the GSA offices. The building has a central rotunda
area with a large domed skylight atop the seventh floor. |
Details
This project included all electrical and mechanical work, including plumbing,
heating, air conditioning, fire protection, and controls for a 311,000
SF, 7-story courthouse with a large underground parking garage.
The electrical
work included very complex, elaborate, and state-of-the-art fire
alarm and security systems, a microprocessor-based building automation
system, a lighting control system including dimming, emergency generator,
and lighting and power distribution system. More than 4,475 light fixtures
were installed.
The Mechanical Division and the Electrical Division
teamed together, supervising as many as six subcontractors and
nearly 100 field personnel.
The Mechanical Systems included three
200 ton chillers, two cooling towers, two boilers, 16 air handling
units, 330 fan powered and VAV
air terminals,
and 14 batteries of bathrooms. |
