After
17 years and 330 miles, the waters of Lake Havasu were delivered
to the City of
Tucson, AZ. At the end of this journey lies the Snyder Hill and
Black Mountain Pumping Plants. The combined capacity of these two
plants is nearly 37,000 cubic feet of water per minute.
The nucleus
of the project is a 121kV SF6 insulated switchgear assembly,
which utilizes state of the art power circuit breaker
technology
to provide what one engineer described as a “switchyard on
a postage stamp”. This equipment was supplied by MITSUBISHI
WORKS of JAPAN in a joint venture with WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP.
The electrical subcontract
work required installation of 3 each 115kV 20MVA power transformers,
SF6 gas insulated switchgear with 3 bays of gas breakers, disconnect
switches and gas bus, 115kV circuit switchers, 8000 feet of 115kV
underground power cable, outdoor metal-clad switchgear, duplex
control switchboards, 15kV non-segregated phase bus, 7200V motor
control equipment, and interior lighting, and power distribution
systems. |
