Overview
This full service 240,000 SF Regional Hospital on the New Mexico /
Arizona border at Fort Defiance replaced the 60-year old Fort Defiance
Indian Hospital and serves the needs of the Navajo people for approximately
1,800 square miles around the Fort Defiance area. The facility has
the capabilities to serve both in-patient and out-patient needs,
and there is also a section designated for the psychiatric treatment
of teenagers and young adults. The Architects, WYATT AND RHODES,
and the Navajo Planning Committee spent a great deal of time in selecting
the site and developing the design to ensure sensitivity to the environment
and the Navajo culture.
