Overview
This project required reconstruction and replacement of existing runway
edge lighting and approach lighting systems due to corrosion of existing
hardware.
A complete new ALSF System was installed
for each runway to include new Honeywell Sequenced Flasher Controllers,
semi-flush in pavement
threshold fixtures including adapter rings and sealant, new ALSF
elevated light towers at both ends, new isolation transformers,
and new power and control circuits from each runway to the vault.
Also repaired or replaced were the runway edge lights, distance
remaining signs, size 3 L858 guidance sign, and reconfigured
runway lighting circuits to a daisy chain with new constant current
regulators for added reliability.

The
following is a quote from a Letter of Appreciation received from
Shannon Cossa, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Construction Representative:
“I would like to express
the joy and satisfaction I experienced while working with you on
the Airfield Lighting Project at Vandenberg Air Force Base. I found
all of your representatives to be professional, courteous, knowledgeable,
and extremely cooperative. I feel that a project can succeed or fail
based upon a contractor’s effort. I truly believe that the
diligent efforts of Gardner Zemke are the sole reason for this project’s
success. Your attention to detail and willingness to perform above
the specifications is recognized with great appreciation. This
shows that you believe
in the quality of work you perform and hold it close to your heart.
This moral trait is hard to find amongst the hundreds of contractors
in the world today. You are a breath of fresh air to the construction
management industry.
It is with open arms that I welcome another
opportunity to work with your organization in the future.” |
