Project Summary
Gardner Zemke was awarded a $ 25.8 million contract by the Bureau of Reclamation to remove existing power transformers and replace with six new 525kV, 276 MVA Generator Step-Up (GSU) Power Transformers at the Grand Coulee Third Powerhouse in Washington.
This project follows several other successful projects with the Bureau of Reclamation at Grand Coulee over the past 10 years. The new transformers were manufactured by SMIT TRANSFORMERS in Nymegen, Holland and were transported by ship to a United States Port. They were then transported by rail to the O’dair, Washington Railhead where they were offloaded and moved by our Transportation Subcontractor, BIGGE CRANE AND RIGGING, to the erection site.
The fully assembled transformers weigh approximately 466,000 lbs. each and were moved fully assembled during each unit outage onto the new transformer pads.
